Margaret Beaufort Local Governing Body (LGB)

The LGB is an advisory group made up of parents, a member of the SAF GB (Sharnbrook Academy Federation governing body), a community representative and School leadership team members (including the Head of school), representing parents views on general topics and providing support and challenge to the school. The LGB has delegated tasks from the SAF GB which include for example reviewing standards and progress, monitoring the school development plan and the effectiveness of the schools behaviour and safety management policy, plus the impact of the allocation of additional funds which the school receives for specific groups of pupils. The LGB also provides an additional communication link between the school, its parents and the SAF GB.

This year the LGB have met termly and the issues discussed have included:

  • Transfer and transition
  • Target setting
  • Attendance
  • School uniform changes (blazers)
  • Behaviour management
  • Pupil attainment and progress
  • Support in place for pupils, including SEN or G&T pupils.

Julia Harrison I was born and spent my childhood years in Cheshire south of Manchester, where I remained as a student. I moved to Bedfordshire for my job some years ago and have enjoyed living in the North Beds villages since. I am currently a project manager in a FMCG company. My son went to a North Beds lower school and spent four happy years at Margaret Beaufort middle school (MB) before moving on now to SUS. I have been a school governor for over 11 years and have spent the last 3 of those on the SAF GB as a parent governor. I currently chair the Margaret Beaufort LGB.

Margaret Walsh:

Maximising each child’s potential to learn and be well equipped for life is what drew me to become a parent governor at MBMS in September 2014.  I believe passionately that education opens up opportunities in life and I see my role as both challenging and supporting MBMS to reach the highest standards for each child.  I am self-employed and undertake a wide variety of work including acting as an Assessor for a professional body; working as an Independent Member for Police Misconduct Hearings in the Eastern Region; and working as a Psychotherapist.  I find that all these skills are useful in the role of governor and also in helping to set the strategic direction for the school’

Natalie Goosey

I moved to Bedfordshire 4 years ago and have enjoyed living in Sharnbrook since. My two sons now attend Margaret Beaufort middle school and enjoy the wide range of activities the school offers. In 1998 I qualified as a primary teacher and I am currently Assistant Headteacher of a Junior School in Northamptonshire.  I have been a school governor for over 8 years and I am currently a parent representative on Margaret Beaufort’s LGB..

Peter Swallow

Surviving a childhood growing up in Essex, I qualified as a teacher in 1972. I started my career at Goldington Secondary School and in 1979 ended up as Head of Science and pastoral head of year 7 at Margaret Beaufort Middle School by way of Daubeney Middle School. I retired 32 years later having had a very rewarding career, teaching everything except music and FFT. During my time at Margaret Beaufort I served as a teacher representative on both the Margaret Beaufort Governing Body and the Federation Governing Body. I have a strong interest in sport and the performing arts and spend a lot of my free time indulging in those activities. I am the community representative on the LGB.
